Name: Tamara Sweet
Date: Thursday June 4, 2015
Capstone Project
Family:
  1. “Pondering this truth—that we are children of heavenly parents —fills us with a sense of origin, purpose, and destiny.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Living the Gospel Joyful https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
  2.  “Does the Spirit of God dwell in your hearts? Are you “rooted and grounded” in the love of God and of your fellowmen? Do you devote sufficient time and creativity to bringing happiness to your marriage and family?” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
  3. "Because of the sacrifice of our beloved Redeemer, death has no sting, the grave has no victory,  Satan has no lasting power, and we are “begotten … again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
  4. "You will remember the Lord’s counsel: “Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy.” (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
  5. "Before they receive your correction, they must have felt of your love early and steadily. They must have felt your genuine praise before they will accept your correction." (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
  6.  "The end of all activity in the Church is to see that man and woman with their children are happy at home, sealed together for time and for all eternity."  (Pres. Boyd K. Packer The plan of Happiness https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-plan-of-happiness?lang=eng)
  7.  The commandment to multiply and replenish the earth has never been rescinded. It is essential to the plan of redemption and is the source of human happiness. Through the righteous exercise of this power, we may come close to our Father in Heaven and experience a fulness of joy, even godhood. (Pres. Boyd K. Packer The plan of Happiness https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-plan-of-happiness?lang=eng)
          • As covenant-keeping women and men, we need to lift each other and help each other become the people the Lord would have us become. (Sis. Linda K. Burton We'll Ascend Together. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/well-ascend-together?lang=eng
          • Will you join me in seeking the help of the Holy Ghost to teach us how we can better lift each other in our complementary roles as covenant sons and daughters of our loving heavenly parents?"  (Sis. Linda K. Burton We'll Ascend Together https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/well-ascend-together?lang=eng
          • Position Statement on Family: I feel about family life as Elder Boyd K. Packer said about procreation, it is not incidental to Heavenly Fathers plan of happiness, it is the Plan of Happiness.  I best complement my husband when we lift together.  Our children benefit when we’re untied.  Like our two hands, we are similar but opposite, however our hands work together to accomplish much.  As parents we have a sacred obligation to prepare our children, the rising generation, for the great work they are accomplishing.  Heavenly Father will help us do it if we turn to him as we do so.  I am grateful to have the privilege to create a home for my family with the spirit of the Lord in it.  I pray that by following the Prophet and inspired council my family will return to Heavenly Father united, all of us together for eternity.
          Pornography:
          1. "Have you deviated—even slightly—from “the … gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to [your] trust”? Have you allowed “the god of this world” to darken your minds to “the light of the glorious gospel of Christ”? (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I?https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          2. "Many people feel discouraged because they constantly fall short. They know firsthand that “the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” They raise their voices with Nephi in proclaiming, “My soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          3. "The power of procreation is not an incidental part of the plan; it is the plan of happiness; it is the key to happiness." (Elder Boyd K. Packer , The Plan Happinesshttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-plan-of-happiness?lang=eng)
          4. "The corrupting influence of pornography, produced and disseminated for commercial gain, is sweeping over our society like an avalanche of evil." (Elder Dallin H. Oaks Pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2005/04/pornography?lang=eng)
          5. "There will be times when all that stands as a shield between your family and the adversary’s mischief will be that (priesthood) power.” Sis. Linda K. Burton We'll Ascend Together https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/well-ascend-together?lang=eng)
          6. "Some have suggested that pornography should be a separate question in the temple recommend interview. It is already. At least five different questions should elicit a confession and discussion on this subject if the person being interviewed has the spiritual sensitivity and honesty we expect of those who worship in the house of the Lord. (Elder Dallin H. Oaks pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2005/04/pornography?lang=eng)
          7. "The greatest filter in the world … is the personal internal filter that comes from a deep and abiding testimony." (Linda S. Reeves Protection from Pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/protection-from-pornography-a-christ-focused-home?lang=eng)
          8. "We as parents and leaders need to counsel with our children and youth on an ongoing basis, listening with love and understanding. They need to know the dangers of pornography and how it overtakes lives, causing loss of the Spirit, distorted feelings, deceit, damaged relationships, loss of self-control, and nearly total consumption of time, thought, and energy. (Linda S. Reeves Protection from Pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/protection-from-pornography-a-christ-focused-home?lang=eng)
          9. "How applicable is Alexander Pope’s classic, “Essay on Man”: Vice is a monster of so frightful mien As to be hated needs but to be seen; Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, We first endure, then pity, then embrace. (John Bartlett, Familiar Quotations, Boston: Little Brown and Co., 1968, p. 409). As quoted by Elder Thomas S. Monson Pornography- the -Deadly Carrier https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1979/10/pornography-the-deadly-carrier?lang=eng)
          10. "At first we scarcely realize we have been infected. We laugh and make light-hearted comment concerning the off-color story or the clever cartoon. With evangelical zeal we protect the so-called rights of those who would contaminate with smut and destroy all that is precious and sacred. The beetle of pornography is doing his deadly task—undercutting our will, destroying our immunity, and stifling that upward reach within each of us. Elder Thomas S. Monson Pornography - the Deadly Carrier https://www.lds.org/generalconference/1979/10/pornography-the-deadly-carrier?lang=eng
Position Statement on Pornography: I know pornography is evil and is as addictive as anything else I could encounter.  Pornography destroys families and relationships.  My greatest filter is my Testimony.  My husband who was our Bishop said that in the church more women are struggling with pornography than ever before.  As I focus on my eternal goal of creating an eternal family I realize pornography has no place in my life.  It does nothing to build and only destroys.  The Holy Ghost is my guide; I listen and turn my eyes away from the images on billboards as I pass them on my way to the Los Angeles temple.  I turn my eyes away again from magazine racks I stand in front of as I check out at the grocery store.  I ask the Lord to help me remove images from my mind and he does.  I don’t dwell on pornography I don’t like it and I teach my children to turn away from it and I hope they do.

          Agency:
          1. "I think God knows something we don’t—things that are beyond our capacity to comprehend! Our Father in Heaven is an eternal being whose experience, wisdom, and intelligence are infinitely greater than ours.4 Not only that, but He is also eternally loving, compassionate, and focused on one blessed goal: to bring to pass our immortality and eternal life.5In other words, He not only knows what is best for you; He also anxiously wants you to choose what is best for you. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Living the Gospel Joyful,  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
          2. So we have a choice. On the one hand, there is the opinion of the world with its ever-changing theories and questionable motives. On the other hand, there is God’s word to His children—His eternal wisdom, His certain promises, and His loving instructions for returning to His presence in glory, love, and majesty. The choice is yours! (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Living the Gospel Joyful,  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
          3. Let us join in the fervent declaration of Joshua: “Choose you this day whom ye will serve … but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15). Let our hearts be pure. Let our lives be clean. Let our voices be heard. Let our actions be felt. (Elder Thomas S. Monson Pornography - the Deadly Carrierhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/1979/10/pornography-the-deadly-carrier?lang=eng)
          4. As those around us make choices about how to respond to our beliefs, we must not forget that moral agency is an essential part of God’s plan for all His children. That eternal plan, presented to us in the premortal Council in Heaven, included the gift of agency. (Elder Robert D. Hales Preserving Agency, Protecting Religious Freedom https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/preserving-agency-protecting-religious-freedom?lang=eng)
          5. "In that Grand Council, Lucifer, known as Satan, used his agency to oppose God’s plan. God said: “Because … Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, … I caused that he should be cast down.”(Elder Robert D. Hales Preserving Agency, Protecting Religious Freedom https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/preserving-agency-protecting-religious-freedom?lang=eng)
          6. "There is no true freedom without responsibility, and there is no enduring freedom without a knowledge of the truth." (Elder Boyd K. Packer Agency and Control https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1983/04/agency-and-control?lang=eng)
          7. "Latterday Saints are not obedient because they are compelled to be obedient. They are obedient because they know certain spiritual truths and have decided, as an expression of their own individual agency, to obey the commandments of God."  (Elder Boyd K. Packer Agency and Control https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1983/04/agency-and-control?lang=eng
          8. "Whenever we choose to come unto Christ, take His name upon us, and follow His servants, we progress along the path to eternal life." Elder Robert D. Hales Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life"  https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/agency-essential-to-the-plan-of-life?lang=eng
          9. "Without agency we would be unable to make right choices and progress." Elder Robert D. Hales Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life https://www.lds.org/general conference/2010/10/agency-essential-to-the-plan-of-life?lang=eng)
          10. "An atonement was made. Ever and always it offers amnesty from transgression and from death if we will but repent. Repentance is the escape clause in it all. Repentance is the key with which we can unlock the prison from inside. We hold that key within our hands, and agency is ours to use it." (Elder Robert D. Hales Atonement, Agency, Accountability https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1988/04/atonement-agency-accountability?lang=eng)
Position Statement on Agency:Agency was preserved by Heavenly Father and given to us as a gift. Our will is the one thing he allows us to give him. He will not take it from us nor will he force us to accept his plan for us. We are free to choose for ourselves. In parenting it is important I remember this principle. It is my responsibility to teach and direct and then my children are accountable for their choices. If they have no agency they will not learn for themselves to make correct choices. I want them to chose Heavenly Fathers plan of happiness, but the choice is theirs and not mine to make, I cannot and should not take the opportunity for them to grow In a greater capacity away from them, it is their right.
          Atonement:
          1. "God knows something we don’t—things that are beyond our capacity to comprehend! Our Father in Heaven is an eternal being whose experience, wisdom, and intelligence are infinitely greater than ours. 4 Not only that, but He is also eternally loving, compassionate, and focused on one blessed goal: to bring to pass our immortality and eternal life. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
          2. But those who want to improve and progress, those who learn of the Savior and desire to be like Him, those who humble themselves as a little child and seek to bring their thoughts and actions into harmony with our Father in Heaven—they will experience the miracle of the Savior’s Atonement. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          3. Brethren, we must put aside our pride, see beyond our vanity, and in humility ask, “Lord, is it I?” And if the Lord’s answer happens to be “Yes, my son, there are things you must improve, things I can help you to overcome,” I pray that we will accept this answer, humbly acknowledge our sins and shortcomings, and then change our ways by becoming better husbands, better fathers, better sons. May we from this time forward seek with all our might to walk steadfastly in the Savior’s blessed way (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          4. A powerful expression of that love is what the scriptures often call the grace of God— the divine assistance and endowment of strength by which we grow from the flawed and limited beings we are now into exalted beings of “truth and light, until [we are] glorified in truth and [know] all things.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          5.  "I marvel to think that the Son of God would condescend to save us, as imperfect, impure, mistake-prone, and ungrateful as we often are. I have tried to understand the Savior’s Atonement with my finite mind, and the only explanation I can come up with is this: God loves us deeply, perfectly, and everlastingly. I cannot even begin to estimate “the breadth, and length, and depth, and height … [of] the love of Christ.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          6.  The Atonement is individual, and if you have something that is bothering you sometimes so long ago you can hardly remember it—put the Atonement to work. It will clean it up, and you, as does He, will remember your sins no more. (Pres. Boyd K. Packer) https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-plan-of-happiness?lang=eng
          7. "I know that through the enabling power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and our faith in Him, we can do it. I pray we will put our trust in Him to help us help each other live happily and eternally as we ascend together. " Sis Linda K. Burton We'll Ascend Together https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/well-ascend-together?lang=eng
          8. Young people and adults, if you are caught in Satan’s trap of pornography, remember how merciful our beloved Savior is. Do you realize how deeply the Lord loves and cherishes you, even now? Our Savior has the power to cleanse and heal you. He can remove the pain and sorrow you feel and make you clean again through the power of His Atonement. (Linda S. Reevs Protection from Pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/protection-from-pornography-a-christ-focused-home?lang=eng
          9. How do we lead our children to deep conversion and to access our Savior’s Atonement? I love the prophet Nephi’s declaration of what his people did to fortify the youth of his day: “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, [and] we prophesy of Christ … that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” (Linda S. Reeves Protection from Pornography https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/protection-from-pornography-a-christ-focused-home?lang=eng)
          10. Trust in the saving power of Jesus Christ; keep His laws and commandments. In other words—live the gospel joyful. (President Dieter F. Uchdorf Living the Gospel Joyful https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
Position Statement on The Atonement: The Atonement is personal to me and I scarcely reflect upon it without the tears that accompany the feelings I have for my Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ.  Without the Atonement nothing holds value for me.  However knowing I have a Brother who loved me enough to suffer my sins and my death and broke bands of sin and death for me,  gives great value to my individual worth and yours. I know because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ I can return to my Heavenly Parents again, clean and without spot.  I can live with my husband and children for eternity, in joy and happiness forever.  I will love my Savior Jesus Christ all my days.  I will share the good news of his gospel with all I can.  In this way I hope to show Him my deep and profound admiration and gratitude.

          Money:
          1. "Heavenly Father is constantly raining blessings upon us. It is our fear, doubt, and sin that, like an umbrella, block these blessings from reaching us. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Living the Gospel Joyful, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/living-the-gospel-joyful?lang=eng
          2.  My beloved friends, my dear brethren, ask yourselves,“Where is my treasure?” Is your heart set on the convenient things of this world, or is it focused on the teachings of the diligent Jesus Christ? “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          3.  "Salvation cannot be bought with the currency of obedience; it is purchased by the blood of the Son of God." (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          4. "We cannot earn our way into heaven; the demands of justice stand as a barrier, which we are powerless to overcome on our own.
(Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          5. "Because there were five small children to feed and clothe, there was not enough money to fence the yard. Taking seriously one of his divine roles as the protector of his family, Uncle Don drove a few small wooden stakes into the ground, took some string, and tied the string from stake to stake all around the yard. He then called his children to him. He showed them the stakes and string and explained to them that if they would stay on the inside of that makeshift fence, they would be safe." Sis. Linda K. Burton We'll Ascend Together https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/well-ascend-together?lang=eng)
          6. The possession of wealth or significant income is not a mark of heavenly favor, and their absence is not evidence of heavenly disfavor (Elder Dallin H. Oaks https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          7. As we are all aware, Jesus praised the good Samaritan, who used the same coinage to serve his fellowman that Judas used to betray his Savior. The root of all evil is not money but the love of money (see 1 Timothy 6:10).(Elder Dallin H. Oaks The Parable of theSower(https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          8. "Tithing is a test of faith with eternal blessings" (Robert D. Hales Tithing: A Test of Faith with Eternal Blessings https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2002/10/tithing-a-test-of-faith-with-eternal-blessings?lang=eng)
          9. Our Heavenly Father wishes to bless His children spiritually and temporally. He understands each of their needs, their pains, and their hopes. (President Henry B. Eyring "Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/is-not-this-the-fast-that-i-have-chosen?lang=eng)
          10. Your fast offering will do more than help feed and clothe bodies. It will heal and change hearts. The fruit of a free-will offering may be the desire in the heart of the recipient to reach out to others in need. (President Henry B. Eyring "Is Not This the Fast That I Have Chosen?https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/is-not-this-the-fast-that-i-have-chosen?lang=eng)                                                                                                                           Position Statement on Money:
Money does not make anyone righteous or unrighteous, it is a tool we can use to bless the lives of those around us.  When I fast I am grateful I can contribute to a fast offering fund knowing that many other members of the church are doing the same thing.  I know my contribution will help the poor and needy at home or abroad. The Lord loves his children and when I fast I have the opportunity to do as he would do to help someone in need.  Having money is good but only if priorities are in order. I like to remember, it all belongs to the Lord, and we should use it for his purposes and glory.
            Health:
          1. "You seasoned companions can bless a young priesthood holder in preparation whenever you can show him that kind of trust. It will help him trust the gentle feeling of inspiration for himself when it comes as he someday places his hands to seal the blessing to heal a child the doctors say will die." (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng)
          2. Spiritual food is necessary for spiritual survival,(Elder Dallin H. Oaks The Parable of the Sower https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          3. We surrender to the “pleasures of this life” when we are addicted, which impairs God’s precious gift of agency; (Elder Dallin H Oaks The Parable of the Sowerhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          4. For emotional health and spiritual stamina, everyone needs to be able to look forward to some respite, to something pleasant and renewing and hopeful, whether that blessing be near at hand or still some distance ahead. (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland "An High Priest of Good Things to Come"https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1999/10/an-high-priest-of-good-things-to-come?lang=eng)
          5. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland "An High Priest of Good Things to Come"https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1999/10/an-high-priest-of-good-things-to-come?lang=eng)
          6. If you find a case where professional help is justified, be very careful. There are some spiritually destructive techniques used in the field of counseling. When you entrust your members to others, do not let them be subject to these things. Solve problems in the Lord’s way. (Elder Boyd K. Packer Solving Emotional Problems in the Lord's Own Way (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1978/04/solving-emotional-problems-in-the-lords-own-way?lang=eng)
          7. By probing too deeply, or talking endlessly about some problems, we can foolishly cause the very thing we are trying to prevent.(Elder Boyd K. Packer Solving Emotional Problems in the Lord's Own Way (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1978/04/solving-emotional-problems-in-the-lords-own-way?lang=eng)
          8. Both spirit and body have appetites. One of life’s great challenges is to develop dominance of spiritual appetites over those that are physical. Your willpower becomes strong when joined with the will of the Lord.(Elder Russell M. Nelson Addiction or Freedom https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1988/10/addiction-or-freedom?lang=eng)
          9. For relief of an ailment, as a doctor of medicine I might write a prescription. As an ordained Apostle, I would invoke the spiritual blessing of eternal perspective. Combined, my spiritual prescription would return the gift of agency to its rightful owner.(Elder Russell M. Nelson Addiction or Freedom https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1988/10/addiction-or-freedom?lang=eng)
          10. I solemnly testify that when another’s acts of violence, perversion, or incest hurt you terribly, against your will, you are not responsible and you must not feel guilty. You may be left scarred by abuse, but those scars need not be permanent. In the eternal plan, in the Lord’s timetable, those injuries can be made right as you do your part (Elder Richard G. Scott Healing the Tragic Scars of Abuse (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1992/04/healing-the-tragic-scars-of-abuse?lang=eng)                                                                                                                          Position Statement on Health: The spirit and the body together is the soul of man.  My spiritual health is affected by my mental and physical well-being.  I know when I take care of my body I feel better.  Getting adequate sleep, exercise and good food, allow me to feel more of influence of the Holy Ghost in my life.  It takes energy and physical strength to serve others.   The Lord needs willing men/women to do his work and I want to be someone he counts on to do it.  I want to be a finely tuned instrument in the Lords hands, willing and able to serve him where ever and when ever he calls me.
            Service:
          1. Brethren, if it is your great desire to cultivate Christlike attributes of “faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, [and service], Heavenly Father will make you an instrument in His hands unto the salvation of many souls. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          2. "With the gift of God’s grace, the path of discipleship does not lead backward; it leads upward. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          3.  "Paramount in our priesthood service is inviting people to come unto Christ by faith, repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost. (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
          4. "The scriptures are so important to prepare us in the priesthood. They are filled with examples. I feel as if I can see Alma following the angel’s command and then hurrying back to teach the wicked people in Ammonihah who had rejected him. 4 I can feel the cold in the jail cell when the Prophet Joseph was told by God to take courage and that he was watched over. 5 With those scripture pictures in mind, we can be prepared to endure in our service when it seems hard." (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
          5.  "It was not by accident that the bishop put that companionship together.  It was by careful preparation that the senior companion had learned about the feelings of that family they were about to teach. It was by inspiration that he felt to step back, to trust an inexperienced youth to call older children of God to repentance and to safety." (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
          6. "All of us in the priesthood have an obligation to help the Lord"(Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng)
          7. Family is the center of life and is the key to eternal happiness. Elder L. Tom Perry Why Marriage and Family Matter https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/why-marriage-and-family-matter-everywhere-in-the-world?lang=eng)
          8. we are all aware, Jesus praised the good Samaritan, who used the same coinage to serve his fellowman that Judas used to betray his Savior. The root of all evil is not money but the love of money (see 1 Timothy 6:10).(Elder Dallin H Oaks The Parable of the Sowerhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          9. When Jesus told a faithful follower that he could inherit eternal life if he would only give all that he had to the poor (see Mark 10:17–24), He was not identifying an evil in the possession of riches but an evil in that follower’s attitude toward them.(Elder Dallin H Oaks The Parable of the Sowerhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          10. May we show our love and appreciation for the Savior’s atoning sacrifice through our simple, compassionate acts of service. (M. Russell Ballard Finding Joy through Loving Service https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2011/04/finding-joy-through-loving-service?lang=eng)

Position Statement on Service:Jesus Christ is my greatest example of service.  He had  love and compassion for those he taught.  He often met their physical needs before he taught them spiritual lessons.  He healed the blind and lame.  He fed the five thousand with a few loves of bread and fishes.   I know when I accept a calling feel inadequate, I’m in a good place, because I need to rely upon the Lord to sanctify and magnify my labors.  I give the Lord my best and I know those I serve will have their needs met because of his tender mercies and compassion toward the children of men.

            Integrity:
          1. We must approach our Eternal Father with broken hearts and teachable minds. We must be willing to learn and to change.  And, oh, how much we gain by committing to live the life our Heavenly Father intends for us. (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          2.  “So how can we shine the pure light of God’s truth into our souls and see ourselves as He sees us?  May I suggest that the Holy Scriptures and the talks given at general conference are an effective mirror we can hold up for self-examination.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          3. "Living the gospel faithfully is not a burden. It is a joyful rehearsal—a preparation for inheriting the grand glory of the eternities. We seek to obey our Heavenly Father because our spirits will become more attuned to spiritual things. Vistas are opened that we never knew existed. Enlightenment and understanding come to us when we do the will of the Father. 30"(Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          4.  “The Spirit of the Lord [our God]” brings about such “a mighty change in us, … that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.” (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf The Gift of Gracehttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-gift-of-grace?lang=eng
          5. "When someone called Him “good,” He quickly deflected the compliment, insisting that only God is truly good. 16 Clearly the praise of the world meant nothing to Him; His single purpose was to serve His Father and “do always those things that please him.” 17 We would do well to follow the example of our Master." (Pres. Uchtdorf On being Genuine https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/on-being-genuine?lang=eng
          6. Does the Spirit of God dwell in your hearts? Are you “rooted and grounded” in the love of God and of your fellowmen? Do you devote sufficient time and creativity to bringing happiness to your marriage and family? Do you give your energies to the sublime goal of comprehending and living “the breadth, and length, and depth, and height” 9 of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ?" (Pres. Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Lord is it I? https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng
          7. "Even more powerful than using words in our teaching the doctrine will be our examples of living the doctrine." (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=e"In priesthood preparation, “show me” counts more than “tell me.” (Pres. Henry B. Eyring The Prepratiory Priesthoodhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/the-preparatory-priesthood?lang=eng
          8. "As a young man in the military service, I visited the ancient shrine at Nikko Kanko in Japan. There, carved into the facade of a building, are the three monkeys. One with its hands over its ears, another over its eyes, and the third over its mouth. Hear no evil; see no evil; speak no evil! That is easier said than done! It is not easy to foster self-control when the world is teaching indulgence."  (Elder Boyd K. Packer Agency and Control https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1983/04/agency-and-control?lang=eng)
          9. On one occasion Jesus rebuked His chief Apostle, saying to Peter, “Thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men” (Matthew 16:23; see also D&C 3:6–7; 58:39). (Elder Dallin H Oaks The Parable of the Sowerhttps://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/the-parable-of-the-sower?lang=eng)
          10. Integrity is fundamental to being men. Integrity means being truthful, but it also means accepting responsibility and honoring commitments and covenants. (D. Todd Christofferson Let us Be Men https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2006/10/let-us-be-men?lang=eng)        Position Statement on Integrity: Integrity is an important aspect to my character, it is something I strive to maintain and accomplish.  Integrity to me means to be what I claim to be.  I want to say what I will do and do what I say. I want to prove to the Lord, I am a person he can depend on.  I strive for my actions and my beliefs to be in alignment with each other.  I am happier when the person I know I should  be and the person I am are the same.  I know the Lord will do what he say’s he is going to do, It’s comforting to know our Heavenly Father also keeps his promises.

          Capstone Project on Family

The walk portion of my Capstone Practicum is on Family.  I have chosen to begin recording my Grandmothers story of her life in the Family Search Web Site.  Her name is Louisa Stevenson McDonald Wilson born 15, May 1898 and died 10 January 1984. You can look her up in family Search by her information or by  PID number which is KWCZ-97S.  I have also attached few screen shots with my paper.
I chose Family because my 87-year-old Uncle has been living with me this past year.  He’s recuperating from an illness and building his strength.   He is stronger and this past weekend we have moved him to an assisted living apartment.  He never married or had children and I live the closest to where he used to live in Los Angeles so I offered to take him in.  Uncle Ervin reminds me of what I remember of my mothers Father.  Taking care of uncle Ervin has turned my heart to my grandparents in a way I never expected.
Two years ago I wrote my Grandfathers story and have wanted to begin recording my Grandmothers Story as well.  My Capstone Assignment gave me that opportunity.  I have spent at least six hours this semester listening to stories from my Uncle and looking through family history books with him.  I found a three-ringed binder with his things that contained my Grandmothers story.   It is from this binder I am creating a permanent record for her posterity in Family Search.
As I have cared for my Uncle and progressed through this practicum, I have felt my Grandmother close to me in many personal ways.  I ‘ve been concerned about my less active son.  Like wise my less active 87-year-old Uncle left home when he was 17 and never lived with family or attended church again.  I have felt my Grandmother’s gratitude for caring for her son in away she no longer can from the other side of the veil.  And I feel like she is watching over my son when in way’s I cannot from this side of the veil.
My heart has turned toward my family.  My 16-year-old daughter and I took 17 names to the Temple last month for youth Baptisms and Confirmations.  I feel blessed to have an Eternal perspective on families.   I love my family dearly and I look forward to meeting them all one day in the future.

My Uncle Ervin (who is Autistic)

(my mother and uncle Ervin's mother)

So far I added five stories from my Grandfathers Story
I recorded in 2013 and three new stories
I researched this semester and recorded today.
